The next period we will be talking about is from 1898-1930. In this time period many new genres of music were introduced such as jazz, country,swing,blues and gospel music emerged during this time. Native americans started doing fake songs and dances called pow-wows, these were supposed to appeal to tourists. In blues a new type of music called the "boogie woogie". It was based on the piano and originated from northeastern Texas. A new type of music called rag time gaines popularity. It is a more sophisticated version of the cake walk. Also during this time a lot of jewish immigrsnts came to america and they brought thier own music which later influenced jazz.
This is sheet music of ragtime jazz. Ragtime jazz is a form of jazz and is know for its 3/4 meter and syncopated rhythms. Some big ragtime stars were "Jelly Roll" Morto, and Scott Joplin. The ragtime music also originated form classical african beats and rhythms.
The boogie woogie is a 12 bar cure that boomed in popularity in 1924. the boogie woogie was played mainly on piano and was a basic 12 bar beat that would repeat and resolve. The single piece that made the genre boom was "The Fives".
The native american pow wow is an exaggeration of classic songs and dances. they natives would perform them for tourists to generate revenue. this practice is still used today and is more widely performed.
